Dollar Store Holiday Upgrade.

Dollar Store Holiday Upgrade.

I hate spending money on things I can create myself. I had a cart full of fun holiday goodies from Home Goods, but had so much guilt about it. I put back items I knew I could recreate, or find cheaper alternatives.
I have a holiday theme for each room downstairs that I am trying to stick to. My living room is a cozy Winter Wonderland. My kitchen is a Pink Christmas. The bathroom, well, a beachy Christmas. And lastly and most obvious a Saints Christmas for my hubby’s and son’s man cave. It’s kinda all over the place but it’s what makes this family happy. Start with one room and create a theme. It makes it so much easier and focused. Also if you can’t afford a huge Christmas display, each year, build on the last. Even start with one little section of the house, a counter top or little book shelf. It shouldn’t be stressful or overwhelming just a little something to bring some cheer. Make the shelf the best looking shelf that makes you happy.

Ok, want holiday signs? Pinterest, Google or window shopping can jump start your ideas. I really liked a very simple sign from Home Good that said “have a beachy Christmas.” It was about a foot long and maybe 6in deep but was $15. I’ve been there and I know what its like when the bills roll in and decorating is not an option. This is why I don’t take it for granted what I am spending my money on. I’m lucky my hubby works in construction and I have all sorts and sizes of wood for signs. But if you don’t have that available and are not crazy artistic grab a $1 sign from the dollar store like these below and spruce it up to match your home holiday decor. Walmart($1.50) and Target(.99ct) both have cheap acrylic paint in all sorts of colors to match whatever color scheme you got going. Paint brushes are also around $1. I already had paint in the house and I use Soho acrylics, which is around $2.50 but I can only really find them readily available at Jerry’s Artarama’s.

I’m going for a Pink Christmas in my kitchen and needed some more details. I grabbed this Santa to repaint and match my color theme. I wasn’t intending on the glitter but I found it in the drawer and wanted to put it to use. Even if you don’t have glitter, painting it looks great. If you need help with ideas just comment or message me. I can help match your home if you need. I’ll update my decorating progress as I go this season. I just wanted to share this simple idea.
